My Lenovo laptop died recently , so I purchased and installed a new
motherboard . The problem is this new board is lacking a uuid number ,
and has no entry for computer type and serial number . Pops up a "2200 -
type and serial number invalid" and a "2201 - uuid invalid" error
messages . Both fields are blank .
Turns out I'll have to jump a through few hoops to correct these
problems - the only way is via a 3.5" floppy disc ! It ran fine for an
hour or two , then started blue screening . I'm wondering if the blue
screen is because of the missing entries ...
There's a new usb floppy drive and some discs for it on the way ...

This lets a thumb drive substitute for a floppy:

Too late , I've already ordered the floppy drive . It was under 20
bucks . Somewhere around here I think I have a bag with a bunch of
floppy discs . Not a clue where it might be so I just ordered 3 discs .
Gives me 2 chances to screw it up ...

Try posting this question on comp.sys.laptops.thinkpad . I got some
very helpful advice on my "new to me" 400s when resurrecting it. Best
to add what detail you can scrounge up regarding model, serial and
any revision numbers.

Thanks Bob , I'll look into that group . As far as I can tell I need
a program that only runs on a floppy disc to add the missing information
. I've ordered what I need , I just hope getting that done will stop the
BSOD problem . If I have to I can wipe the HDD and start over . I've had
to reinstall an OS and the programs I use before ...

Several hard drive makers offer programs that can clone the boot+OS or any
other drive to a new disk, or save a copy to a backup drive.

I have one of those programs , can't recall the HDD supplier (WD?) it
came from . Right now I'm running a restore on the T510 , I tried
putting the hard drive in a T420 to take on a trip because the 510 has
programs I need . Didn't work out and I may have corrupted some drivers
or something .
A guy on the newsgroup Bob P. suggested didn't seem to think the
problems are linked . We'll see what happens after the restore .

Restore just finished , booting now . Let y'all know if it didn't work .

Thanks , but it appears that restoring it to a date before I swapped
the hard drive has cured the BSOD problem . The missing data is a minor
annoyance in comparison , and I have the equipment needed to correct
that on the way . I'll also update the current 2012 BIOS once the
missing data is entered . Lenovo doesn't want to talk to me ...

Simple, just jump back in time to before the problem occurred. Why didn't I
think of that?

Lenovo is avoiding you because you answer their questions before they ask
them.
